Turing Resist into Rest

Leviticus 23:1 thru 25:23

I’m back (in my singing voice). I so appreciate my mother-in-law for stepping in for me and writing Monday’s and Tuesday’s post. She's such an awesome women of God.

These past couple of days I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with over 1,000 church planters. So much was gleaned from some great men and women (Rick Warren being just one of them); great stories of what to do and what not to do, how to do and how not to do, and many amazing ideas were sparked and fueled. And all this just makes me want to jump in, implement, and run with our vision at CCA at full throttle.

Then I read today’s reading… and verse 32 of chapter 23 which said, This will be a Sabbath day of complete rest for you...

We women are so bad at complete rest. We resist the truth that says you can’t do it all and be it all. But when we step back and take the I out of the word resist, we rest.

I love what a speaker said last year at a conference I attended. Myself and a couple ladies were there with 700 other moms, wives, career women, pastor’s wives, and ministry leaders.  Of course we wanted to get the most out of the conference but the speaker knew that as we were there listening and learning we would also be worrying about what was going on back at our homes, in our churches and in our businesses.

She gave us some great advice that first night. She told us to forget everything else in our lives vying for our attention for the next couple days because it really did not matter anyway because we really were not that important.

Such words of wisdom. We women think that our families would fall apart if we were not home. No, some meals might not get cooked like we would cook them, but your family will survive. Trust me, a Quarter Pounder with Chesse have saved more than one kid’s life.

We think our churches will fall apart if we were not there to keep them running smoothly. No, if the church has survived the past 2000 years without you, chances are it will keep on surviving.

So today, I will take the I out of resist and rest in God, if not for a whole day, at least for one moment each day.

Love you guys,
