Both will be Delivered

2 Samuel 15:1 thru 17:14

A messenger soon arrived in Jerusalem to tell David, "All Israel has joined Absalom in a conspiracy against you!"

"Then we must flee at once, or it will be too late!" David urged his men.
2 Samuel 15:13-14

When David heard of his son's rebellion, this warrior king does the most remarkable thing...

he packs up and runs for his life.

Could this be the same David who defeated Goliath with only a sling and a stone?

The one who God anointed King of Israel?

The one who God prospered like no other?

The one who was the man after God's own heart?

The one who wrote, With God's help we will do mighty things, for He will trample down our foes. Psalm 60:12

And now, he's running?

The first place we see him come to after fleeing the palace was the Mount of Olives; the place where people worshiped God...

and David prays.

Did David know that hundreds of years later his very own descendant, Jesus Christ, would come to that same place and cry out to God for strength?

Was Jesus thinking of David as he prayed that starry night so long ago?

Both will be delivered.

One through death on a cross and another through the death of his son.

But if they both could speak to us today, I know they would instruct us to not walk in the fear of our foe, but the faith of our God.

David would later write...

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me.
