This week I am posting the prayers from our
Mother’s Day service at CCA. If you
missed yesterday’s prayer and what we did during our service that was so special,

A Prayer for Stepmothers:
Father
I come before
you today on behalf of these mothers. Very few relationships can be more
difficult to cultivate then those between a stepchild and a stepparent.
Some may find
the path smooth and without many obstacles, however for most, the path is full
of challenges. As conflicts and struggles arise, give them supernatural wisdom
to do and say things that will bring understanding and peace to the home. To
not allow feelings of anger and resentment take root in their hearts. To not
react but be prayerfully deliberate in developing healthy relationships. Give
them assurance that the righteous deeds sown will bring a harvest of blessings.
May they not be moved by the temporary, but have their eyes fixed upon the
goal. Give them unwavering optimism and joy during this journey.
Feelings of
inadequacies can compound the issues and leave these mothers, at times, feeling
hopeless. Help them to relinquish any misconceptions and remind them that you
are the God of abundance and can meet any need they have as the relationship
grows into maturity. Bring to their remembrance that they can come to the
throne of grace with confidence and receive grace and mercy in time of need as
we are told in Hebrews.
Let them not
diminish their role in the godly upbringing of their step children. A mother’s
influence can be a powerful force in shaping the young lives before them. It is
not by accident that they are given this opportunity but by divine design. For
they are commissioned to help bring these children up in the way that they
should go so that when they are old they will not depart and bring delight to
their families.
Above all, I
pray these mothers are motivated by love and not by fear. For you have not
given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. Let them be
courageous in their love. To love as if their hearts will not be broken. To
love as Christ would love. For we love because he first loved us. Lead them by
the Holy Spirit as they purposefully work to cultivate a bond like no other.
I thank you Father that you hear us
when we pray,
Amen
Thank you Amy for your prayer for Stepmothers.
